Billy Joel's famed track "Piano Man" has been added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.
The song joins a wide range selection of music in this year's induction class also including jazz, rock, pop and metal tunes.
"This collection of blues, jazz, rock, country and classical recordings, interspersed with important recordings of sporting events, speeches, radio shows and comedy, helps safeguard the record of what we've done and who we are," said Librarian of Congress David S. Mao.
The collection adds 25 new songs every year that represent historical landmarks in American popular music.
This year's selections range between 1911 and 1986, and Mao adds that they all represent "cultural, artistic and/or historical significance to American society and the nation's aural legacy."
