Don McClean's wife, Patrisha McLean, has filed for divorce following a domestic violence incident in mid-January.

Patrisha filed divorce papers in Maine, citing "adultery, cruel and abusive treatment, and irreconcilable differences.

" The McLeans have been married for 30 years.

Don has been prohibited from having contact with his wife since the domestic violence incident, and Patrisha's attorney, Gene Libby, says in a statement that in that time, his client has gained "strength and insight away from his influence and control."

The singer's lawyer, Michael Asen, says that his client "cares very deeply about his wife and family," adding that "this was not what he wanted."

McLean's next scheduled court hearing for the domestic violence incident will take place in early April.
