Signe Anderson, the original singer of Jefferson Airplane, is dead at 74.

Anderson, who sang on the band's first record before being replaced by Grace Slick, had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She died at home, according to her daughter.

In a 2011 interview, Anderson said she left the band after giving birth to her first child.

"You have to look at the priorities in your life, the reality in your life," Anderson told radio station KGON in Portland.

"I had to wait in the San Francisco airport in July of 1966 for 36 hours before we got on the airplane and flew to Chicago.

All the diapers were gone. I don't regret having left."

Jefferson Airplane co-founder Paul Kantner died.
