Giorgio Gomelsky, the first manager of the Rolling Stones, has passed away from cancer at age of 82.

Gomelsky owned London's Crawdaddy Club, where the Stones were the house band.

He managed them until being replaced by Andrew Loog Oldham in 1963.

In a 2013 New York Times interview, Gomelsky professed his distaste for the "money, money, money" that had taken over the U.K. scene in the 1960s.

"By then the Brits had blown it. They'd been seduced by the American Dream of making a lot of money playing music in incredibly bad conditions like stadiums."

During his career, Gomelsky also managed The Yardbirds, helping the group secure their first record deal in 1964.

After moving to New York later in his life, he went on to discover post-punk band D-Generation.
