While Mick Jagger serves as the creator of, and inspiration behind, HBO's upcoming new show Vinyl, a show he created alongside famed filmmaker Martin Scorsese, he says the show isn't based on anything in particular.

"Not really," he tells Billboard. "I just thought it would be good to have these characters in the record business because there are so many crazy people and then make it go through different periods.

In the series we do flashbacks, but in the movie we had a lot of flash-forwards, too. Who knows, we might do that in the series in the future."

In making Vinyl alongside Scorsese, Jagger says the two haven't had any disagreements.

"I'm bigger than him. We haven't had any spats or anything, but obviously, there's a huge ¬committee involved."

And of his son James playing the role of the lead singer of the show's band The Nasty Bits, he added that "I'm very pleased with him," though he admitted that he didn't have him in mind for the part initially.

Vinyl debuts February 14.
