Rod Stewart is set to be named as godfather to one of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood's unborn twins.

"If they christen the children, Rod will be first in line to be godparent.

Ronnie has been confiding in him a lot and getting advice about changing nappies."

The 68-year-old Wood and wife Sally recently announced they were expecting twins. The babies are expected in June 2016.

A spokesperson for the band said: "Needless to say, they are thrilled and overjoyed with the wonderful news."

Stewart and Wood have a friendship that spans decades. Stewart was even the best man at Ronnie's wedding to Sally back in 2012.
