Spike Lee is set to debut a documentary about Michael Jackson at next month's Sundance Film festival.

The famed director of Malcolm X and Do The Right Thing is planning to release three films dedicated to Jackson.

The one debuting at Sundance represents the first of the trilogy. It's called Michael Jackson's Journey from Motown to Off the Wall.

While mostly known as a feature film director, Lee has a long history of creating documentaries.

His work includes 4 Little Girls, a film about the 1963 church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, and When The Levees Broke, a movie about Hurricane Katrina.

Lee's movie Chi-Raq is in theaters now.

Besides Lee's documentary on Jackson, the Sundance festival will screen The Hollars, directed by former The Office star John Krasinski, and Certain Women, starring Laura Dern, Kristen Stewart and Michelle Williams.

Other documentaries at the prestigious festival include films about Frank Zappaand Maya Angelou.
