Mick Jagger has opened up about his new HBO drama series Vinyl.

The rock legend co-created the show with legendary film director Martin Scorsese and it follows the turbulent rise of a record label in the 1970s.

The show was initially conceived as an original film for HBO, but Jagger revealed that there was just too much to cover for one show.

Speaking with Rolling Stone he said that "it was very sprawling" and ultimately inspired he and Scorsese to make it a series based in New York.

As for the show's setting he refers to 1970s New York as "raunchy" but also says, "I like the milieu.

The show was always going to be set there."
