Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney were among the artists to pay tribute to the late Allen Toussaint via social media.

Toussaint, a New Orleans native, passed while on tour in Spain on Monday. The cause of death was heart attack.

"He was such an influential songwriter and performer," Jagger tweeted.

The Rolling Stones covered two Toussaint songs - "Pain in My Heart" and "Fortune Teller" - early in their career.

Macca, meanwhile, hit Instagram to offer a memoriam.
