John Mellencamp and Keith Urban teamed up on Mellencamp's 1983 hit "Pink Houses" at the 49th annual CMA Awards.

After the two harmonized on "Pink Houses," Mellencamp left the stage to Urban, who performed his latest hit, "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16." The single name-checks Mellencamp in the title.

Mellencamp began his career as Johnny Cougar at the behest of his manager.

He later changed it to John Cougar, then John Cougar Mellencamp, before landing on John Mellencamp in 1991.

Urban has previously said that Mellencamp's music "was such a huge part of my life."
