Singer Johnny Van Zant and guitarist Rickey Medlocke say there's a dearth of young, up-and-coming rock guitar whizzes on the scene.

The pair sat down with MetalXS to talk about the current state of rock and give their opinion on how to fix it.

"A wise man told me that there's no guitar heroes in the last 20 years or 10 years, and that's probably the God's honest truth," said Van Zant.

Medlocke added that most bands just don't have enough guitar players.

"I think the three-guitar attack, as they say, is really powerful. Especially the way the sound of each guitar is different, and it comes together."

"You don't see bands doing that these days," noted Van Zant.
