Donald Fagan of Steely Dan paid tribute to jazz legend Sonny Rollins during a benefit at the Jazz Foundation of America's A Great Night in Harlem at the Apollo Theater.

Fagen gave a performance of "Paul's Pal," a Rollins collab with John Coltrane on the 1956 collection Tenor Madness.

Rollins was honored at the benefit with the Jazz Foundation of America's Lifetime Achievement Award.

"He was one of my high-school idols," Fagen told Rolling Stone of Rollins. "Jazz kind of saved my life when I was a teenager, and Sonny was probably my all-time favorite."

"The Foundation is great," he added of JFA. "It helps ailing musicians when they get older or they get sick.

Musicians don't have any kind of special benefits or anything like that usually, so it's a great thing."
