Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood is not a fan of singing competition reality shows, inveighing against the format in a recent interview with NME.

Wood says it's a form that could ruin the confidence of its young competitors.

"Apart from being nervous and playing in front of a panel, they play in front of millions and millions of people.

It's bad for their ego if they don't make it, or if they make a mistake, I mean, it's magnified so much more," he began.

"I'm amazed more people don't commit suicide, do you know what I mean?"

He added that he sometimes thinks of his career with the Stones as "one long audition."

Wood performed with One Direction during the X Factor finale last year.
