The Iron Giant, an animated film that was ultimately inspired by a Pete Townshend rock musical, will see a re-release in theaters on October 4.

The Iron Giant was inspired by a Ted Hughes' novel, which in turn inspired Townshend's 1989 album The Iron Man: The Musical by Pete Townshend, which featured appearances by Townshend's Who bandmates, Nina Simone and John Lee Hooker, who played the Iron Man.

The Iron Giant was originally released in theaters in 1999. The film features Vin Diesel, Jennifer Aniston and Harry Connick Jr. as voice actors.
