We rather like the idea of dressing Felicity Shagwell, but wear with caution - think 60s chic, rather than Pretty Woman. High-necklines are essential and chunky polo necks preferable. Wear with A-line minis and steer away from any tight short skirts or dresses, or else risk hazardous working girl territory. Shift and jumper dresses are good options, as are flirty skater skirts.

We're also fans of Carine Roitfeld's interpretation of the trend, wearing her PVC thigh-highs under a pencil skirt - suggestive and sexy, but still utterly chic. You don't need to bare your thighs if you don't want to. Just make sure your skirt is longer than the top of your boots.

Whether in velvet or PVC, boots are back and they're worth braving.
