Pastel hair: a very brief history

Pastel pink hair has dated right back to the 1700s, with the infamous Marie Antoinette treating her hair with saffron, turmeric, sandalwood and rhubarb in order to achieve a strawberry blonde effect.

It's also been pretty hot in film and popular culture over the years, with some of our favourite pastel pink hair looks seen on the fabulous Natalie Portman in Closer and the uber cool Juergen Teller portrait of Kate Moss in the late 90s.

The 21st century saw a rise in pastel hair trends, and a whole range of colours as well as pink started to become seriously popular. In recent years, the trend has boomed ten-fold due to innovations in social media, especially in the form of our beloved Instagram.
