Denim Styles For Plus Size Women

Color

Forget anything faded or whiskered. Dark wash or black denim not only moves easily from day to night, but also creates one long visual line. It’s an optical illusion.

Instead of pulling the eye to an area of whiskering (like on the thigh, crotch or knees), a dark, even color slims and elongates the leg.

That’s your overall goal. Any solid, even-toned color is a go – have fun with it!

Rise

Are you familiar with muffin top and plumber’s crack? Not good looks and certainly not flattering in any manner.

Women with these denim side effects are wearing jeans with too low a rise. That’s where the jeans sit on your middle.

Luckily plus size women have two great rise options.

A high rise that comes above your bellybutton (near or on your true waistline) makes your legs appear longer and creates a beautiful hourglass shape. There’s no butt or belly peeking out. Whew.

Mid-rise sits right below the belly button and also works to show off your best assets rather than expose skin

Cut

This refers to the shape of the denim. A boot cut pair is fitted in the thigh but becomes slightly wider from the knee and down the calf. This look balances out the size of your thighs.

Straight leg jeans have one line from hip to hem, which can make the leg look slimmer and longer.

Skinny, or tapered, denim is another option but shouldn’t look painted on.

Keep in mind that your shape will be on display and you need to be proud and own it! There’s no reason only super skinny women should wear skinny jeans. Let confidence be your guide.

Material

An all cotton jean feels stiff. Yuck. We’d want to get those off as soon as possible.

Denim needs to have stretch! A good rule is denim with 1 to 4% Spandex so you have room to move and jeans won’t lose their shape.

Too much stretch shortens the lifespan because jeans get misshapen quickly.

Pockets

Select denim pockets according to how you want to enhance your bottom.

Lots of detail on the rear, like flaps and decorations, will rev up and round out a flat bum.

But they can make a larger tush look even larger! If you want to tone down your backside, look for simple, plain pockets that are big enough to balance you out.

Tiny pockets will makes your bum look big in comparison.
