Refresh your wardrobe for the new season with seven must-have spring accessories every woman should own.
The snow is finally melting and there’s a hint of warmth on the horizon which can only mean one thing: spring shopping is finally here!
It’s time to shed those heavy winter layers and refresh your wardrobe for the new season with seven must-have spring accessories every woman should own.
1. Silk Scarves
Think of silk scarves as the updated version of the statement necklace that can add a pop of color and pattern to an otherwise neutral outfit.
Longer square scarves can be draped loosely around your neck or even used as a head wrap if you have a beach vacation on the horizon. I especially love small silk pocket squares.
Tie one jauntily around your neck with a crew neck top or even an off-the-shoulder dress or around the handle of your handbag for a touch of playfulness.
2. Wooden & Woven Bags
Pack those heavy leather bags away. It’s time to lighten your load with bags made of natural materials like straw and wood.
You can find excellent vintage woven straw bags for a song.
I especially love the woven clutches that have tropical floral embroidery.
They’re basically the sartorial version of a spring break getaway!
3. Umbrellas
As the old saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers” and you’d be remiss to shirk the weather when considering your spring accessory lineup.
I’d urge you to ditch the basic black umbrellas you’ve picked up at corner markets in a pinch and choose a bright umbrella to cast an optimistic glow on a gloomy day.
I also love clear umbrellas that allow as much light in as possible.
4. Rain Boots
Along with your umbrella, you’ll need a pair of wellies for spring’s damp days.
I’d suggest two pairs: one in basic black when you need to wear them with a neutral work outfit (they look great with black tights) and a pair in your favorite bright color.
The bright and bold pair will offer a much-needed dose of color for combatting dreary days.
If wellies aren’t your thing, consider a pair of waterproof Chelsea boots (some brands make rubber rain versions of these) or rubber ballet flats.
The latter isn’t great for days it’s actually raining, but work well for misty days.
5. Statement Earrings
When the weather warms up, you’re more likely to style your hair into a perky ponytail or a messy topknot.
Take advantage of your bare neck and accessorize with statement-making earrings.
The bigger and bolder, the better! I’m all about the oversized drop earrings that just barely graze the shoulder.
6. Ballet Flats
The sweet, feminine ballet flat is the perfect shoe for spring. It’s a classic style that looks as beautiful with skinny ankle-length jeans as it does with mini skirts and short dresses.
Opt for a pair in a pretty pastel shade, preferably in patent, for a cheerful spring shoe you’ll reach for throughout the season.
If ballet flats don’t fit your aesthetic, try a classic loafer in a springtime hue.
7. Bright Nail Polish
Alright, I know I’m stretching the meaning of accessory with this one, but bright nail polish is the least expensive way to update your look and add a splash of springtime optimism to your look.
Whether you add a splash of color to your toes (read up on pedicure pointers here) or opt to update the shade of your fingernails, bright or pastel nail polish can make every outfit a bit brighter and happier for spring.
I personally love a candy-like shade of pink for my manicure and white or baby blue for my pedi.
