Do you ever hear beauty tips that sound odd? As crazy as some beauty myths may sound, some of them actually can be believed.

Here are 5 BEAUTY MYTHS THAT ARE ACTUALLY TRUE!

1. SHAMPOOS STOP WORKING AFTER TIME

I totally thought this was a myth perpetuated by hair care advertisers to get us to buy more shampoo.

The truth is that our shampoo and conditioner can stop working on our hair.

That’s not because our hair becomes immune to it, it’s because environmental factors (like the weather) and product accumulation on your hair.

These two factors can make it so that the shampoo and conditioner no longer produce the same results on your hair.

You can fix this by periodically using a clarifying shampoo to get rid of product build up and then go back to the shampoo and conditioner you love, or try a new one.

If weather is a factor, change the type of shampoo you use based on the season.

If you normally use moisturizing shampoo during the winter when it's dry, you might need to switch to a different formula during seasons when you don't need extra moisture for your hair.

2. WEARING YOUR HAIR IN A TIGHT PONY TAIL WILL MAKE YOUR HAIR FALL OUT

This is true, my friends.

Ponytails, buns, twists and the like that pull on your scalp for long periods of time can cause irreversible hair loss!

So, instead of wearing tight, slicked back hairstyles that pull on your hair follicles, go for a braid, ponytail or up-do that is messy and loose.

That’s super on-trend right now, and I bet part of it is because people are realizing that tight hairstyles are bad for your hair.

3. RUBBING YOUR EYES AND SQUINTING WILL CAUSE WRINKLES

This really is true.

All these years I thought I was being fed false advice! Actually though, when you rub your eyes, you pull on the skin around your eyes which overtime will cause wrinkles.

This happens when skin cells get squeezed and pulled and the skin eventually loses the firmness it once had.

You should also apply your eye cream gently! That's why experts recommend using your ring finger - it's one of your "weaker" digits, less apt to pull on the fragile skin around your eyes.

4. NAILS SHOULD BE FILED IN ONE DIRECTION

Here’s another “myth” I totally thought was made up until I started getting regular manicures and noticed the technician filed my nails in one direction.

When you go back and forth on your nails with a file, it weakens them and can cause them to chip! Who knew? Here are my favorite emery boards; they are just like the ones professionals use in nail salons!

5. YOU SHOULD THROW YOUR MASCARA AWAY AFTER 3 MONTHS

This just sounds crazy, right? What makeup doesn’t last at least 6 months? Well, mascara doesn’t.

Or shouldn’t. Because you are applying it to your eyes, it’s super important that even if the mascara seems OK, you still throw it out.

This is because after 3 months you can cause an eye infection inadvertently from the mascara.

When mascara starts to get old (around 3 months after opening it) it can become a breeding ground for bacteria.
