Seasonal allergies can do a number on your beauty routine.
Puffy eyes, dark under eye circles and red, inflamed nostrils are not a pretty sight.
Read on for a few beauty tips to help get rid of redness, swollen puffy eyes and reduce inflammation caused by allergies.
The first step, of course, is to follow any regimens and prescription or over the counter medications your doctor has recommended to ease your allergy symptoms.
Here’s more about home remedies for nose and sinus allergies.
Cut Down On Allergens
Wash your hair at night to remove pollen and dust.
Since some women of color might not want to wash their hair every night, be sure to shake out your hair before entering your house to get rid of some of the dust and allergens that might have accumulated during the day.
To avoid tracking in dust and allergens into your home, remove shoes at the door and put on shoes that you’ll only wear indoors.
On days when there will be a high pollen count, keep the windows closed to keep allergens out.
Use an air purifier, especially in the bedroom, to help remove and keep pollen and other allergens out of the air.
Help For Your Nose
Try a nasal moisturizer.
Use a nasal spray and a protective moisturizer for the nose, which can become rough and irritated from sneezing and constantly blowing the nose.
Rinse irritants from the nose.
Rinse your nose at night with a saline solution to get rid of allergens and other irritants.
You can use a squeeze bottle and use a saline solution pack from the drug store or make your own with a solution of non-iodized salt and distilled water (avoid using tap water, which might have impurities).
Sooth your sinuses.
To sooth your sinuses and help you to breathe, you might want to treat yourself to a visit to a spa that has a eucalyptus steam room.
If that doesn’t work for you, you can give your face a nice steam at home.
Add eucalyptus oil to boiled water poured into a large bowl, or use a facial steamer (make sure your face is not too close to the hot steam).
Drape a towel over your head (if you’re using the bowl method) and inhale for 5 -10 minutes.
