If you're a woman of petite or average height you may want some tips on how to appear taller and achieve that long, slender leg look.

While you cannot alter your genetics, there are a few tricks you can use to create the illusion of long, lean and sexy legs.

Wearing bottoms in the right colours can slenderize and elongate your leg, and making smart choices about hemlines, waistbands, and shoes can also go a long way towards creating that look you've always wanted.

Use Color to Your Advantage

Match your shoes with your pants or stockings.

For example, try wearing black hosiery with black heels.

This monochromatic look creates a clean line, as the eye travels from the top of your leg straight down to the floor without stopping.

Choose pants within the same colour range as your boots or shoes.

If you cannot match the colour exactly, get as close as possible in order to create a cleaner line.

Wear a monochromatic outfit.

Matching the colour of your stockings with your shoes creates a longer, leaner looking leg; but if you wear an entire outfit in that colour it will create an even more streamlined appearance that extends beyond your leg.

Cover your legs with dark colours.

Black and other muted shades have a slimming effect, and wearing them on your legs will make your legs look more slender. Slender legs look leaner and longer and sexier

Purchase nude heels.

"Nude" refers to a colour that closely blends in with your skin tone.

In choosing a shoe that blends in with your skin tone, you're "tricking" onlooking eyes into not noticing where the shoe begins and the leg ends.

As a result, your leg appears lengthened giving the appearance that the length comes from your heel.

Pick out a pair of pants with a vertical pinstripe pattern.

Vertical details draw the eye up and down, "tricking" it into seeing additional length.

Similarly, piping, straight and sharp creases, and vertical rows of buttons can create the same effect.
